Alton Towers Half Marathon
13.1 miles at Alton Towers on 15 November, running for Tourettes Action. This is the event on my JustGiving page, and the first step in a longer plan to run all seven Abbott World Marathon Majors.
I have lived with motor tics myself, so this is a cause I understand from the inside rather than one I picked off a list.
Tourettes
Action
I have suffered with motor tics. That is the whole reason this is the charity on the vest. I know what it is to have your body do something you did not ask it to do, amongst people who noticed.
Running is the opposite of that feeling. Every mile in this training block is a mile I chose. Raising money for the people still in the harder version of it is the least I can do with them.
Tourettes Action is the only UK-wide charity dedicated to supporting individuals with Tourette syndrome and their families.
Their services include a helpline, online and face-to-face support groups, training, webinars, events and resources. They also support research into the treatment and diagnosis of TS.
Give what you can
JustGiving
You choose the amount on the JustGiving page. Donations go straight to Tourettes Action, never through me, and UK taxpayers can add Gift Aid at 25p in the pound.
Plenty of companies match what their staff raise. It is usually one form and it doubles the money.
Sending this to one person who has never heard of Tourettes Action could get someone the support they need.
Alton Towers, 15 November. Standing at mile 10 making noise is a genuine contribution.
